I just got my new MOMO gear shifter knob for my 2003 is300. The only thing I wish I could do, is cut the bar supporting the knob down. It would be better if it was like an inch or so shorter. Does anyone know how to go about doing this? It seems fairly easy, I would need to cut the top, and then have it re-threaded. Thanks for any help. Here are a few pictures.

i have a Razo shift knob in my car...it was silver until i painted it flat black to match the interior...

when it was silver, it was about this high...

i didnt like the height and color so i took it apart (it was plastic with leather) i took out some useless internals, cut a few things, and painted it flat black...it now looks like this....

what do u think? (u might notice a little scuff mark...and the bottom section of the shift knob was painted without sanding while the top part was painted, sanded then painted again

btw, this was what was taken out of the shift knob...useless spacers

i dont think u would resort to taking apart the MOMO shift knob....so i dont know how u would be able to make that lower...if u do find a way, please tell! icon_biggrin.gif im still not satisfied on the height of my shift knob icon_lol.gif

BlackDraGunIS:

The way my MOMO mounts, there are no spacers. I plan in the near future to take the chrome support bar to a machine shop and see if they can cut it and re-thread the bar.

Basically, I need to know if the chrome support bar unscrews directly from the transmission plate? Thanks!

if the height bothers you then cut it down some, any respectable machine shop can cut it and re thread it. but if its just seeing the stick under the beefy knob, put on a shift boot. i plan to do so too soon. ill let you all know how that goes.

Actually, most aftermarket shift knobs do not need that threading that your stock shift knob uses to mount......

If you want to cut it......JUST CUT IT.

Take a hack saw to that bad boy while its still in the car.
