What makes it louder? the Race pipe or Header?

I have the toyo header and race pipe, and along with my tanabe RM exhaust, my car sounds like loud beast! sounds sexy yet not daily driveable..id get pulled over in a heartbeat...

is it the race pipe or the header that makes the noise? like if I replace my race pipe with my stock one, will the noise be dramatically lessened? anyones input would be appreciated..

I think its mainly your exhast because I have Pro-1 Headers and Racepipe with a stock exhaust and the only way you can tell I've got some stuff under the hood is the smell of unburt fuel :puke

By the way.....Anyone that wants to get ride of your check engine light...Pull out your guage cluster and PULL THE STUPID BULB!

both headers & race pipes make volume.. but the exhaust has alot to do there too... some are louder & some have silencers. IMO silencers are worth it if yo uare into flying low daily & avoiding hassles i usually take mine out on a weekend if i know i am gunna be driving alot & or heading to a meet or whatnot...

You will lose volume & some mid/high power pulling the race pipe & going with stock y pipe & leaving headers in there.......

you will lose prolly more power & some volume with the header pulled out & the Stock exh mani popped back in & the race pipe in there...... .BUT the car with the stock manifold will FEEL stronger as the swap to a header inevitably loses you MUCH more torque then the swap to a Race pipe..

....so with a header you get more ultimate power but more power is focused on the mid to upper end of the rpm band & the car wil feel slower off the line...

I just swapped out the XERD header & Stock y pipe, & popped back in my stock exh mani & XERD racepipe & the car is actually Louder with a lower beefier exh note, & sounds MUCH better than withthe Xerd header in there, it ALSO has MUCH more torqe & pulls harder in 1st thru 3rd gears..... i mean a NOTICEABLE difference.... feels like i GAINED power Vs lost some.....

as for your specific scenario.. .try diff combos.. .you might save ALOT of noise by just getting a stock y pipe back in there & going with a silencer in the exh tip. of your muffler...

The header loses us more low end torque than anything else & with the stock mani & a race pipe, & a silencer in the exh you should be fine..... it will sound sick as all hell at WOT but still gurgle nicely when cruising...

Hhaha I read your post on IS300.net about your 5 swaps or so..haha youre crazy..i have the exact set up like you but instead of xerd...i have toyomoto...

i wish i could cruise that loud w/o the silencer but i just cant...the silencer does help a lot,but it just sounds like my tanabe w/o the headers..still loud...i am going to just put the stock one back on and put my custom hks on while i track or what not...

with the stock exh back in there, & keeping your header & race pipe, the car should be MUCH quieter & tolerable for sure & you should still feel the power.....just less of it .. you might gain back some torque & not FEEL slower at all....

good thing is an exhaust swap takes all of 30 min max if you are slow...
