WTB: Looking either into buying a GS300/GS400/GS430

Hello. Im new here (newbie). Im also a member at IS300.net since 2000.

I am in the market to purchase a used GS. Im not sure which year to look into. I know the 2002 and up has the child latch system for carseats as i have three little ones. I grew out of my IS (1st owner) and would like to either sell it or sell my 2007 Daytona 675 graphite and purchase a GS.

I noticed that the GS430 took away they e-shifter on the steering wheel. any reason? I may plan on getting the V300 jzs161 2jzgte motor to swap to old motor but i am not sure which GS to buy. 300?400?430? (note: I live in the state where ARB is very strict: Cali)

If i dont swap into the 2jzgte, i'll probably get the 400/430. My cousin has a 98/99 GS400 and he told not to get the 300 since the jzs160/1 is heavy and that the 2jzge motor can really pull you not like how the 400/430 can.

Also, Im not sure if i want to get the stock navi since (though its convient to have an all in one unit) it isnt as modern in tech like the ones that are being made nowadays. I guess the features that I am looking for would be similar to a fully loaded IS300 exlcuding navi.

The model years i'm looking into are: 2000 ~ 2003
Mileage would be around: 75k ~ 135k (1st owner/ 2nd owner and clear title only)

It would be greatly appreciated if you can share your thoughts/ideas/comments/recommendations/personal experience on this thread.

I'd limit the search to the GS430 in the years you've mentioned. I have a '01 430 in great shape that I bought with 65K miles. It runs like new, and it's a responsible family car, but when I'm alone, I can switch the ECU to Sport mode, turn off the VSC and have some fun. It's a blast at stoplights, and it's easy to get sideways with controlled throttle-induced oversteer on dry pavement. Just don't turn off the VSC in the rain, or you'll just sit 'n spin.

I once raced a VW R32 on the way to picking up my kids from baseball practice. Not every day, but when conditions are right. It's like having a muscle car and a family sedan in one. I'm also not embarrassed to valet park it, either, and the resale value is strong. Don't compromise - if you value and enjoy performance, get the engine that can deliver.

Hopefully, i can purchase my GS sometime late this year. who knows. maybe i'll buy the newer body style.
