ecu/comp. chips

hey has any1 only changed the ecu or engine management system in their car? or maybe upgraded a computer chip... if so is it a good idea or a bad 1... if its beneficial, can you tell me how? yeah i kno i sound new cause i am so try not to bag on me... unfortunatly im a young guy whose parents to not change/upgrade the exhaust or intake in my car so im findin a way around their rules.... thanks for the help...

If they have a rules about Intakes and Exhausts then that would probably extend to chips once they find out what they can do.

I take it that you do not own the car.

dont get scammed by getting a chip for you is! the chips in the is are already sooped. its part of the cars claim to fame. the i.s. in is 300 actually stands for intelligent sport. its due to the fact that the engine is equiped with vvti or variable valve timing intelligence. i have yet to see a chip help at all. as far as the exhaust, try the greddy sp2, its quiet at idle and while cruising along at lower rpms, but really opens up in the higher revs, it will also give you a good 20 hp boost if you get the cat back. even improve your miles per gallon. and it uses the stock bolts and hangers so if it must be taken off and sold nothing is modified.
