98 LEXUS GS300 STEREO PROBLEM!

I have a 98 lexus gs300 and the radio has a bit of a distorted display. The dealer sayd it would cost 800 fekken $ just to fix this. I have seen many cheaper radio units (98-2005) on ebay. Will all years of this radio work? I don't have mark levinson =/

From what i hear you can change th LCD in the radio and it will work fine. Call pioneer ( they make the lcd) to get the part #. It costs like $55. You can get a unit off of ebay, but it will only work if it is exactly the same. So don't try to put a nakamichi radio in place of the normal pioneer radio. Also if you buy a radio off of ebay, you may run into the same problem with the "newer" radio. Just something to think about. Good luck!!!!

The above advice is partially true, but not entirely. You can buy the LCD for $65, but you can't install it due to how it connects, so you have buy the whole assemble for $122.50. I am also in the same boat, Lexus quoted me $713 to fix it, I'm just looking for a nice tutorial on how to take the stero out of the car and apart to install the lcd assembly.
