I'm Thinking about changing the rear 6X9 speakers on the Lexus IS 300. I have heard some chatter that you can not replace the speakers becuase there are wired in individually ex: Sub, mid , highs. Is this true.???

I heard the same, but not impossible. I believe you need to get componet speakers and perhaps dink with the wiring, but possible. I think there was an article on is300.net. I will try and locate in free time!

Yes you are right. I believe Boston Acoustic makes a speaker that has individual inputs for Hi mid and low. Ask Flatline.

Yea, the wiring back there is a little tricky. If you just wire it, you either get highs or lows. You need a 3 way speaker, (because that is whats stock back there).

Wouldn't a 3 way speaker require High, Mids and Low inputs?

Concidering the output from the stock stereo only gives you 2 outputs.

That's the tricky part, Esteban. It is 2 way, but 3 way.

OK, U R telling me that the rear 6x9s are one way? Well, explain to me the other 2 speakers in the rear deck along with that...

The IS300 is equipped with an 8 speaker audio system. Please point out to me where the 8 speakers are. Thanx.

So there are more speakers in the rear deck besides the 6 x 9's?

I looked all under and found only the six by nines, tapped off one to a hi-low converter to my JL amp and bam......done. Sounds great btw jeff, you gotta hear it.

You guys really should'nt tap off the rear line if at all possible. I am going to do my system when I get my car back from the body shop. I have in my garage a clarion 7" LCD deck that I am going to install which has pre-amp outputs, running that to the amp. The sound quality will be much better than splicing into the rear.

There is one line out to the 6 by 9's. I tapped off of it to a hi-low converter, then to the JL audio amp. easiest install every.

Yea, that's exactly what you should do, just tap into that line...

The rear 6X9s have little tweeters on top of them. Thus creating the "Lexus 8 Speaker system"... I took my system out, doing something new.
