any body get pulled over for exhaust modification? Is it legal for cops to pop your hood? Anybody have any knowlegde that they would like to share because in SB and goleta all the damn cops are pulling over people and sending them to the ref because of intake and exhaust modidication. I havent been pulled over because i am scared now to drive my car in the street. i have like three friends that have been pulled over for no reason, they where all stoped and a street light and cop pulls them over and makes them pop their hood. that stupid..... icon_twisted.gif

well technically, any modification to the stock set up is illegal... even if the mods have like "carb stickers" and other stuff that make it legal.. it only makes it safe.. but not legal.. legal is keeping it the way u bought it off the lot. =P poo.

cops probably low on their quotas for their month and needa boost numbers up.. has this happened before? or just recently? if its just recently, might be the quota thing, or just a phase thats going on..

if you have any mods then it gives the cops a valid reason to search under your hood, but they are NOT allowed to search anywhere else in your car....unless you or your friends are under parole

actually quotas are illegal by law of the state of california. police departments are not allowed to give officers ticket quotas. however, officers are reprimanded for handing out too few, and the more tickets the more merit an officer recieves.

Cops suck when it comes to cars and speeding and giving tickets. Period. End of Story. Well at least in my experience anyways. Up here in Utah, cops tend to break constitutional rights because they're expected to. I have an auto teacher who used to be gang task force, and he says he broke laws all the time just because he COULD.
My neighborhood is one of the most patrolled areas in Salt Lake City (radar wise), and one of the funnest ways to get back at cops is to let other cars know about oncoming speed traps. I'm sorry to have so much animosity towards cops but they've been nothing but bad luck for me.

I tink LA cops are really starting to put their foot down on "imports" lately

my buddy has a S13 silvia (240SX) and he uses it for drifting he even got the J-spec SR20DET turbo motor on it, but recently he got pull over for exhaust and they pop his hood ands all and they happen to notice the VIN# din't match so they inpounded his car thinking he had a stolen motor cause he dint have the right paper work on him!!

They ran the VIN# to see if it was a stolen motor but they could'nt locate it on the system (cause is a japanese motor), so now he needs to re-register the car and do the smog check ans stuff otherwise the car is not legally able to drive on the streets!!!

I know the majority of the Honda/Acura people usually swap their motors so now cops now that and look for any excuse to pop your hood and check the VIN#'s....

trust me, its legal, theyre just not allowed to search the inside of the car or the trunk without a warrant. but under the hood is fair game. anything that would make an officer think you may have illegal parts , (i.e. nos stickers, exhaust, etc.) is reason for him to 1st pull you over, and 2nd check under your hood, and 3rd measure ride height. unless you are under parole or some other reasons however, they may not search the interior of your car or your trunk. if they try, tell them no and ask for their supervising officer to come down if they persist.

I've heard they can even come out with a piece of special paper and hold it to your exhaust to see if you have your catalytic converter on.
If the paper turns blue or yellow.....your in big trouble mister.

also, and i was informed of this by an officer friend of mine, that it is actually quite easy to argue an exhaust ticket. there is no tool that the offcer has in his car to measure the sound level of your exhaust. use that to your advantage when talking to mr. big judge.

A friend got pull over no so long ago over his exhaust (on a DC5/RSX)and the samething happen to him but they pull this long wire about 10-15 ft long and put it onto the exhaust they kept pushing on it and stuff but it stop about half way throught, afterwards the cop said your lucky it stop otherwise that means you have no cat converter and I would'of inpounded your car..

But he still gave him a ticket for HID's, he din't buy it that the car came stock with them!!!

Guys i guess here in tennessee were lucky we never have to worry bout that kinda stuff. I have hardly heard of cops pulling people over for stuff like that and cops most def. cant pop your hood and check w/out a warrent cause we dont have emissions. The only thing cops pull people over here for is sound systems. They passed a new law saying that if a cop can hear your system from 50ft then he can give you a ticket and i had just installed my $500+ system in my car and that pissed me off but i was beside a cop the other nite and he didnt do a thing plus i didnt know he was there until he drove past me lol. But yeah im sorry guys for all your crap out here in the south we dont have to worry bout it i have a Twin Turbo Supra and all my friends drive honda's, wrx's, and other stuff and have neve gotten pulled over except for street racing but yeah good luck on that stuff guys.

In Little Rock, Ar they might pull over an import, but it's only because they think it might be a drug dealer or something. They want to search the inside of the car, but never under the hood.

what about non stock rims, does that count as an illegal mod after stock? .... also what is a catalac converter. i also heard if a cop has a probable cause he can search your vehicle without a warrant.

maybe people are setting you up or complaining about your exhaust and the cops are forced to write you up?
