I have some Clarion 5 X 7 speakers that also have a 6 X 9 plastic adapter which I believe is the size of the rear speakers in my 2003 Is300.

Anyway I want to swap out the factory. I noticed looking through the trunk at the speakers, that it seems fairly easy. I am just wondering, what is the best way to go about removing the rear speakers? I think I have to go through the top like the passenger area and remove the plastic speaker covers then I am assuming I will see the screws. Can anyone confirm, and just give a little more information about how the speakers are removed? After they are removed, I plan on cutting the positive and negative leads, attaching the proper connectors, and plug them in. Thanks!

you dont just take off the speaker covers... you have to take off the whole rear deck cover, it comes off in one big piece and you will see the screws

Yea, the whole deck has to come out. You should also be careful to notice that the rear speakers are 3 ways. If you are replacing them with 3 ways, you shouldn't have a problem. If not, make sure you hook up the frequency you want, mids or highs.

What happens if you put a 2 way in?

I fear our answer lies within the confines of is300.net! icon_rolleyes.gif

What size are the IS300 factory speakers?
6.5" in front doors, 1.25" tweeter on doors, 6x9" woofers in the rear deck, 3" stackmounted on 6x9 woofer in rear deck.

I replaced my 6x9's and the new one's sound like shiet!?
That’s because the factory amp sends a total of 4 channels to the rear speakers. The woofer is 2 ohms and only gets a limited range of frequencies; the mids are 4 ohms and get the remainder of the frequencies. When hooking up a typical 6x9 you will only use 1 set of these amp channels, and thus you get bass or highs only.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Basically, I have not done this yet because I am still figuring out how to remove the rear deck, but my guess is there will be four leads, 2 pos / 2 neg. A pair of leads is visible via the trunk if you look up at the speakers and my guess the other pair will be exposed once the rear deck is removed.

This works out for me because my clarion speakers are component, which means I just hook up the two pairs of leads and I should be golden. God willing that is. If I get around to doing it, I will take pictures and perhaps post a FAQ and install guide.

** Basically anyone have detailed instructions how to remove the rear deck to access the speakers? I am a little apprehensive of just taking a screwdriver and hammer to the thing. icon_biggrin.gif
