I have a 2003 IS300. My engine light went on the other day. Took it to the shop and the mechanic told me it was the catalytic converter.

I've called around all over the place and looked on the internet for a replacement converter but the only place I've been able to find one is at the Lexus dealer and they want to charge me $1100 for it! Yeah right.

So anyway, could someone PLEASE point me in the right direction where I could get aftermarket converter for an IS300? Do they even make aftermarket converters for the IS or am I just stuck with buying one from the dealer. I'd hate to pay $1000 for something a rediculus as a catalytic converter.

Any help would be GREATLY appriciated.

is your lexus out of warranty range? the warranty is 5y/50,000 miles. second, call scrap yards, often times there are wrecked vehicles that you can harvest teh part off of. Also retrieve the part ID # from lexus and cross reference it on the internet. I am almost positive you can get that part aftermarket

Just as an observation, but I didn't say it. You live in Florida, we don't have inspections in Florida, whose to say that theres a cat on your car. A "test" pipe would cost you very little. My past experience with cat's is that I've gained a few HP after removing them. I could be worng about that with the IS, someone please correct me if I am. Just a thought. icon_biggrin.gif

Ya i would just take it out and have somewhere put a straight pipe in its place. If you don't have to get your call inspected i would just remove it. i gotta side up with the guy that told you this.

You need to go to Toyota/Lexus and demand a replacement Cat. By Federal Law major emission control components are covered for the first 8 years or 80,000 miles. I found this out when GM tried to get me to pay for a replacement CAT on my car that had about 30k on the clock. They tried to convince me that the warranty didn't cover any part of the exhaust. Saying it was considered to be a wear item. I had two cats replaced under warranty before the car had 60K on the clock! Then I got a letter from GM stated that they were confirming that there is a known problem with cats for the LS series engine and they were covering them up to 120K miles. Quality GM crap. Needless to say I don't own that POS anymore! Good luck but you should have any problem unless you have over 80K.
