Has anyone tried to pair either the new LG VX8100 or Motorola's E815 (both from Verizon) with the 2006 GS300. Would appreciate any feedback.

Got the phone earlier this week and installed in the 05 LS430 quickly. Works great handsfree/bluetooth & an excellent phone as well.

Are you talking about the E815?

I got the E815 soon after it came out and pairing it with my '06 GS300 was extremely simple. If you do a web search though, you'll find that the main complaint about Verizon is that they turn off some of the bluetooth profiles (search for Verizon and OBEX). This means that you won't be able to transfer your phone book entries to the car.

In order to transfer my numbers to the car's phone book, I used my previous phone - a Motorola V551. I had to do them one at a time, but it's just a matter of time. I think some other phones may let you transfer your entire phone book at once though.

Once that was done, I didn't have any problems using any of the bluetooth features. Dialing and receiving calls worked flawlessly, sound quality was good, and the display also showed the phone's signal strength.

If you don't want to go through the trouble of finding another phone to transfer your phone book entries, then you still have some other options:

+ use your phone itself to dial and accept calls - voice will automatically be transferred to the car's audio system.

+ get a hardware bypass (switch). I think this could run you as cheap as $150 and would let you dial numbers while you're driving. It would also enable viewing DVDs while in motion. You still wouldn't be able to use the one-touch dialing features though, as you'd still have no way to save the numbers you dial.

+ use a secret menu to enable dialing while in motion (I know it works for inputting nav destinations, and believe it also works for bluetooth). Same limitation applies as to when using the bypass - won't be able to save numbers.

In the end, I think it's worthwhile either hacking your phone or finding another one to transfer numbers to your car's phone book as I've found the 1-touch dialing pretty convenient.

Can you point me to where to find out more about the secret menu, how to get there and what it will do exactly?

hit menu then the volume button. from there touch the upper left corner, lower left corner, upper left corner, lower left corner of the screen and it should take you to a service menu. press and hold down the override button and it will allow you to type in destinations while you are driving, i'm not sure about phone stuff, but it is worth a try. Let me know how it goes.
