updating 99 LS 400 navigation system

Is it possible to update the nav. system on a 99 LS 400? Is this something a layman can do or must it be done by the dealer?

I just did this to my '98 a couple of days ago. I assume the '99 also has the hard drive that is replaced in this upgrade. I ordered mine from Sewell Lexus in Dallas over the internet for $300. The newest upgrade they have is Sept of 2003, but at least it included my street this time! The swap is very straightforward if you have the slightest bit of do-it-yourselfer in you. There is a black box in the left side of the trunk under the mat which contains the harddrive. The black box comes out with 3 10mm nuts and the drive is easily removed with 2 phillips screws. It comes with detailed instructions and a postage prepaid box to send the old drive back to the factory. You might give this a shot, mine worked fine and took about 15 minutes.

I just ordered an updated hard drive from Lexus of Madison. If cost $265 and they said that this will be the last update made for the system. I believe that it came out the first of this year.
